The motivation has always been to use the medium of literature to offer this rich tale of historical events with additional characters, and to reinforce the anti-war theme by weaving the rhetoric of hateful leaders from around the world into character dialogue. This was done to demonstrate that evil can have a recognizable and timeless echo.
